Osteonecrosis, DVT/PE, or Central Retinal Vein Thrombosis in Women after Receiving Testosterone

Dr. Charles J. Glueck of the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati reports 4 women who sustained osteonecrosis, deep venous thrombosis/pulmonary emboli, or central retinal vein thrombosis after receiving testosterone to treat reduced libido. As the testosterone is aromatized to estradiol, the high estradiol interacts with previously undiagnosed familial thrombophlia to produce thrombosis. Dr Glueck will be glad to provide free assistance in the diagnosis and therapy of women who sustain thrombosis while on testosterone therapy, and invites such women to contact him directly at cjglueck@health-partners.org.
