ClotCare is honored to have Susan Fagan, PharmD as a member of our esteemed editorial board. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Fagan was recently named the new Albert W. Jowdy Professor of Pharmacy Care at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. According to that organization's newsletter, this "professorship recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a genuine interest in students, has an outstanding teaching record with a commitment to stimulate student curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, and has a distinguished scholarship and/or service record in pharmacy care."

In addition to this recent honor Dr. Fagan has received, she also has been working on some exciting drug research. Dr. Fagan is co-investigator on a study into the safety and efficacy of using Minocycline, an old intravenous antibiotic, in treating stroke patients. So far the results of the research have been promising. According to the UGA publication highlighting the research, "animal studies have shown the drug, given within six hours of a stroke, then every 12 hours for up to three days - the peak time of inflammation - reduces stroke damage by up to 40 percent." The investigators believe the drug will be safe and effective treatment in human patients, too.
