Dr. David Hawkins

David W. Hawkins, Pharm.D., is Professor and Dean at California Northstate College of Pharmacy in Sacramento, California.

Dr. Hawkins earned his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy at the University of Georgia in Athens and his Pharm.D. at the University of Michigan. He completed a residency in clinical pharmacy at The University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. His additional education includes specialized training in epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and studies in measurement, design, and analysis methods for health outcomes research at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Hawkins is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American College of Clinical Pharmacology, American Heart Association for High Blood Pressure Research, and The International Academy of Clinical and Applied Thrombosis and Hemostasis. He has been a member of the National Pharmacy Cardiovascular Council for the past 12 years.

Dr. Hawkins’ research interests include clinical drug trials, pharmacoeconomic studies, and the evaluation of pharmacy care services. He is widely published in pharmacy and medical literature and has been invited to lecture at numerous national seminars and meetings. He is a past recipient of The Pharmacy Practice Research Award of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation and the Robert G. Leonard Memorial Lecturer award from The University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Dr. Hawkins is a consultant and serves on the Speakers Bureau for the following pharmaceutical companies: AstraZeneca, Sanofi Synthelabo, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
