Stuart T. Haines, Pharm.D., FCCP, FASHP, FAPhA
Director
Dr. Haines is Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the West Palm Beach Veteran's Affairs (VA) Medical Center. He currently serves on the ASHP Commission on Credentialing (COC) - the governing body responsible for establishing standards and accrediting pharmacy residency and technician training programs in the United States. Previously, Dr. Haines served on the Steering Committee for the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) for several years and is a Past-President of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). He has been a member of several editorial boards including Pharmacotherapy, the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP), the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPhA), and the Pharmacists'/Prescribers' Letter.
Dr. Haines' research interests include medication use behavior, diabetes management, women's health, cardiovascular disease prevention, and evaluation of instructional methods.
Dr. Haines earned his B.S. in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences and his Pharm.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston as well as a Primary Care Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM). In 2006, Dr. Haines was elected a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice.
Dr. Haines has not received any (direct) financial compensation from any commercial source in the past 2 years, but in the distant past has received educational and research grants from Astra-Zeneca, Aventis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and DuPont. Additionally, he has received honoraria for consulting from Astra-Zeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, DuPont, and Sanofi-Synthelabo.
